The Weekly Bookmark Digest Nobody Has to Remember to Check

Bookmarking something is the easy part. Every network makes that a one-tap action. Actually going back and reading the thing later is where it falls apart, because nothing pushes it back in front of you, so it sits in a list you have to remember to open on your own.

The weekly digest email is Birdfeeder's answer to that. Pick a day of the week and a time in Settings, and every week on that schedule an email shows up with everything you bookmarked since the last one. Not a link to go check your bookmarks, the actual posts, full text and images inline, in your inbox.

The job behind it runs once a day and checks every user's chosen weekday and delivery time against the clock, then pulls whatever's new since their last_sent_at timestamp. There's a gate so it only ever sends once per calendar day even if the job runs more than once, and another gate so brand new signups don't get an empty digest on day one, since there's nothing to summarize yet if you joined this morning.

The mailer method that sends this is still named twitter_summary internally, a name left over from when Birdfeeder only supported X. It stayed that way after Bluesky, Mastodon, and Nostr were added because renaming it has no effect on what the email actually does: it rolls up whatever's new across all four networks into one message, regardless of the method name.

It's also gated by entitlement. Trialing and paying accounts get the weekly email; once a trial runs out without converting, the email stops going out. Bookmarks that were already saved stay exactly where they were and remain searchable.
