What is a Nostr bookmark list?

When you bookmark a note in a Nostr app, the app saves it to a list that belongs to your public key. Most apps store this list in the open, so anyone who knows your npub can read it. That is also why this tool works without a login.

Some apps let you mark bookmarks as private. Private bookmarks are locked with your private key, and nobody else can read them, including this tool.

How it works

  1. Paste an npub. It starts with npub1 and is the public name of a Nostr account.
  2. Birdfeeder looks up the current bookmark list for that account on several Nostr relays.
  3. You see each bookmarked note with its author, date and text.
  4. Download the list as CSV for a spreadsheet, or as JSON for your own scripts.

The tool shows up to 100 notes per list and never saves anything about the account you look up. To keep a full copy that updates on its own, back up your Nostr bookmarks with Birdfeeder.

Frequently asked questions

Are Nostr bookmarks public?
Usually yes. Most Nostr apps publish your bookmark list in the open, tied to your public key. Anyone with your npub can read it. Bookmarks you mark as private in your app stay private.
How do I view someone's Nostr bookmarks?
Paste their npub into the box above and press Show bookmarks. You will see every public note they bookmarked, with author and text.
How do I export my Nostr bookmarks?
Look up your own npub, then press CSV or JSON above the list. The file downloads right away. For a backup that stays up to date on its own, connect your npub to Birdfeeder.
Do I need my private key (nsec)?
No. The tool only needs the npub, which is public. Never paste your nsec into any website.
Why are some bookmarks missing?
Private bookmarks can only be read by their owner, so they do not show up. Bookmarked long-form articles are not shown yet, and a note that no relay still has cannot be loaded.
