I Moved from X to Bluesky and Kept My Bookmark Archive Intact

When you move from X (Twitter) to Bluesky, your bookmarks stay behind. Bluesky itself has no option to import them, and your old X bookmarks stay in X while new ones pile up in Bluesky. I kept both in one searchable archive by linking my X and Bluesky accounts to the same Birdfeeder account.
Why my bookmarks were about to split in two
I've spent more time on Bluesky over the last few months. It wasn't a big exit from X, just a slow shift in which app I open and where I save things worth keeping.
That kind of shift used to worry me. Birdfeeder started as an X bookmark archive, and it only read from one network. If my attention moved somewhere else, my own archive would split: old bookmarks on one side, new ones on a network Birdfeeder couldn't see.
Bluesky only added its own bookmarks in September 2025. Before that, a post saved on Bluesky wasn't saved anywhere you could search later. And Bluesky's bookmarks can't help you find a post you saved on X years ago.
How to keep X and Bluesky bookmarks in one place
When I relaunched Birdfeeder in July with Bluesky, Mastodon and Nostr next to X, this is the part I wanted to test on myself: does it still feel like one archive?
- Sign up with the account you already use, X in my case.
- In Settings, link your Bluesky account to the same Birdfeeder account.
- Birdfeeder imports your existing Bluesky bookmarks and keeps saving new ones from both networks.
Both accounts now sit under one login. Bookmarks from either network go into the same archive, with the same search, the same weekly email, the same private notes and public sharing, the same RSS and JSON feed, and the same MCP access if I want an AI assistant to search my saved posts.
What happens to my X bookmarks if I stop using X?
They stay in your Birdfeeder archive. Birdfeeder saves its own copy of each bookmark, so it doesn't rebuild your history from whichever network you use this week. If you stop opening X, or a tweet you saved is deleted later, the copy you already have stays searchable.
For Bluesky posts it works the same way, even if an account moves to another PDS or deletes a post.
How it went for me
Changing which network I check first didn't cost me anything. Splitting time between both doesn't break up the archive or leave search history behind on one side.
I didn't plan this as a test when we shipped support for several networks. It turned out to be the first real sign that it worked the way I'd hoped: my bookmarks moved with me, even before I had decided where I was moving to.
