Why X's Bookmark Tab Has No Search Box (and What I Use Instead)

You can't search your bookmarks on X (Twitter). The Bookmarks tab has no search box and no filter. It's one long list, newest first. To search your Twitter bookmarks, you need a tool that saves the text of each bookmarked tweet and lets you search that. I built Birdfeeder for this.

Can you search bookmarks on X?

No. I checked again before writing this, and nothing has changed. X lets you search public tweets, your DMs and almost everything else on the platform. The one thing you saved on purpose has no search at all.

That's a problem once you have more than a few dozen bookmarks. I bookmark things on X all the time: a thread about Postgres indexing, a good line I want to remember, someone's notes on a bug I'll probably hit in six months. When I go looking for one of them later, I often remember three words from the middle of the tweet but not who wrote it. On X, that leaves me scrolling and hoping.

How to search your Twitter bookmarks

Birdfeeder imports your X bookmarks and stores the full text of every tweet, not just a link back to X. You then search that archive like you would search your email:

• Type a few words you remember. Birdfeeder finds the tweet even if those words are in the third sentence of a long thread. Partial words match too, so "postg" finds "Postgres".
• Search for a handle. If you know you saved something from a specific account but not what it said, search the username and every bookmark from that account shows up.

How far back does search go?

On the 14-day trial or a paid plan, search covers your whole archive, as far back as your bookmarks go in Birdfeeder. Without a subscription, search only shows bookmarks from the last 7 days. If older bookmarks match, Birdfeeder tells you how many it found and asks you to subscribe to see them. I went back and forth on whether to show that count at all, but it felt more honest than hiding that older results exist.

When you connect X, Birdfeeder first imports your most recent bookmarks and then saves every new one. Importing your full bookmark history from X is part of the yearly plan.

Pricing is $5 a month or $45 a year. The trial doesn't ask for a card, so you can see whether your own bookmarks are searchable before you decide anything.

Why the saved copy matters

Because Birdfeeder keeps its own copy, search still finds a tweet after the author has deleted it or the account was suspended. I wrote more about that in what happens to your X bookmarks when an account is deleted.

X's Bookmarks tab is still a flat list with no search box, and as far as I can tell it will stay that way. I stopped waiting and built the search box myself.
