Why X's Bookmark Tab Has No Search Box (and What I Use Instead)

I bookmark things on X constantly. A thread about Postgres indexing, a tweet with a good line I want to steal for later, someone's take on a bug I'll probably hit in six months. The bookmark button is right there, so I use it.

Then I go looking for one of them and X gives me nothing. Open the Bookmarks tab and it's just a flat list, newest first, scrolling forever. No search box. No filter by account. If I remember three words from the middle of a tweet but not who wrote it, I'm stuck scrolling and hoping my thumb stops in the right place.

I checked if this changed recently. It hasn't. X will let you search live tweets, search your DMs, search almost anything else on the platform, but the one thing you explicitly saved for later has no search at all.

That gap is basically the reason Birdfeeder exists. It pulls in every bookmark you save and stores the full text of the tweet, not just a link back to X. So when I half-remember a phrase, I type it into the search box and it finds the exact tweet, even if those words are buried in the third sentence of a five-tweet thread.

You can also search by handle. If I know I bookmarked something from a specific account but can't remember what it said, I just search the username and every bookmark from them shows up.

One small thing I like: the search page shows a live count as you type. Type "rate limit" and it'll say something like "Found 47 bookmarks matching your search" before you even hit enter. It's a small UI detail but it makes the search feel like it's actually looking through your archive instead of just filtering whatever loaded on screen.

There's a real difference in what you get back depending on whether you're subscribed. If you're on the 14-day trial or paying, search covers your entire archive, going back as far as you've been bookmarking. If you're not subscribed, search is capped to roughly the last 7 days, and on older results it'll show you the count but ask you to subscribe before it shows the actual tweets. I went back and forth on whether to tease the count at all for non-subscribers, but it felt more honest than hiding the fact that older results exist.

Pricing is $5 a month or $45 a year, and the trial doesn't ask for a card up front, so you can see whether your own bookmark pile is actually searchable before you decide anything.

None of this fixes X's Bookmarks tab. That's still a flat list with no search box, and as far as I can tell it's going to stay that way. I just stopped waiting for it and built the search box myself.
